Match report by Issy Burkitt:
The York ladies 5s had a very promising start to the season winning 4 - 1 against Halifax ladies 3s.
With just 11 players, no keeper and no captain, the pre-match chat from vice-captain Issy wasn't filled with optimism, the main point being 'keep the opposition out of our D'... And that we did!
York 5s dominated the first half of the match with lots of leads towards goal, shots on goal and short corners but unfortunately none were converted. 0 - 0 at half time. The Halifax team managed to get into their attacking D just a handful of times during the match but did manage to win the first goal from a short corner. After seeing this the York forwards were even more determined to get some goals and they came in spectacular style from Helen, Pip (x2) and Aneesa.
Great effort and energy from the whole team throughout the match from the forwards multiple shots on goal and converted goals, mids making sure the ball didn't get too far into the defensive half and the defence stopping the ball getting into the D to limit shots on goal. A well deserved 3 points on the board!
