The L5s secured a second win in 3 weeks with a 3-1 win over neighbours in the table Wakefield.
The match started evenly, with periods of possession and pressure for both teams. York grew into the game, increasing our shot (putts) on goal, but without converting.
With gold-standard encouragement from Stella and the supporters on the side, the 5s efforts eventually told, with sharp-shooting CC converting to lead York into half time 1-0.
York began the second half brightly, with a long-range shot from Izzy vaulting into the goal via a Wakefield player for 2-0. Izzy then decided to attempt a triple jump / dressage combo on a York short corner heading back to the halfway line … not entirely successfully, earning her DOD.
Some gorgeous play on the wing, with Jan and Grace overlapping seamlessly and some sprints worthy of the 100m final from POM Grace continued to apply York pressure. A hammer strike from Lyd to beat the Wakefield goalie, and 3-0.
Wakefield continued to apply the pressure, and despite some judo-like blocks and strength from Ash, Steph, and Annie in defence, scored one goal back.
York’s continued success with our long (jump) passing, athletic moves from Anna, Forman and Wiggy in midfield to keep possession and energy up in the later stages, and a press as synchronised as a 10m diving duo saw us see out the game with an Olympic win.
