Batley 1s Away
The 5s turned up to Batley raring to go, knowing that they needed a win and nothing less. With the threat of relegation to get us inspired, we started the match well!! The defence of Steph, Maddie, Annie, Grace and myself putting in a shift to stop any form of attack! The mids worked tirelessly to help both defence and attack out. We put together some lovely passages of play and stood firm to Batley's strong tackling and presence!
We made it to half time 0-0 and a switch of formation inspired to us to come out and fight for the three points! Straight out the blocks in the second half, we immediately looked more composed and confident. Steph in her new sweeper role looked to sweep up any lose balls and fling them back to any York players! Anyway, and I’m claiming a half assist for this-
I got bored of defending our D and ventured up to our attacking 25 and pinged a ball in which resulted in a York short corner!
A Lydia straight strike and a Helen tap in ( I think) and 1-0 York. We knew we needed to keep our composure and that’s what we did ( just about). Every Batley attack was met with pure York strength, challenging them out wide, low block tackles and general nullifying of anything they tried to do. There were a few times in our D where it did get a little scrappy, there was one occasion where I gave Steph a cracking tackle but we stood firm!
We held on for a well deserved victory and have helped our fight for survival! Onto Adel next week where we need another 3 points to help our cause!
